why does the sound of an steel guitar string dull?

It is because the iron nell'acciaio is reacting with oxygen in the air rust. . producing? Or some other reaction that happens?

    The strings stretch and bend and oils from your hands which also get kinks in it the strings also make it sound bad.

    Grime and dirt build up on strings from the sweat and oils from our hands and fingers.

    This in turn doesn’t allow the string to ring-out compared to a fresh set of strings.

    It is recommended that you use a clean cotton cloth to wipe down the strings and fret board after playing to extend the life of strings.

    For sure though thought the hell dont know about it really wasnt bad at all its just the hell dont know about those reactions one thing before but when hear certain songs that used steel stringed guitars it really wasnt bad at.
