What causes the A string on my guitar to hum when I play the upper E string?

The same thing happens when you play the string of B, only it 's the string lower And what ronza. It 's an acoustic guitar with steel strings. Anything that can be done to stop this event?

This sounds like “sympathetic vibration” just dampen the strings you don’t want vibrating with your finger
