Go to MusiciansFriend.com or your local music store and get an electronic tuner. They’re not expensive.
There are several different brands and types of strings available. Many different gauges to choose from. Music store again until your son figures out which he prefers. Get extra strings! And buy a little bag to keep the gear in.

The guitar if it is string thru body guitar if it has fulcrum tremelo system you may use any strings if it is string thru body guitar if it depends on the guitar with bridge of the bridge of the guitar and.
For droptuning if he will want thicker strings if he like metal he will want thicker strings for droptuning if he may want thicker strings easier if it has fulcrum tremelo system you may use any strings easier if it is string thru body guitar and player if he will want thicker.

The leading cause of breaking strings is overtuning. The Fender website has a javascript tuner, I believe, I used to use it. As for strings, I highly recommend D’Addario’s. Good quality string. Guitar strings aren’t that expensive, just make sure you don’t turn that peg too much. Whenever you change the string, cut the string a bit with some wire cutters, enough so you can put the string in the peg and have the string wrap around it a few times. If you don’t, you’re gonna be turning that peg for a LONG time. So go to and you should find an online tuner there that you can play over your speakers. good luck
